Meet Lizbeth: A Passionate Behavior Interventionist
Lizbeth B. brings an inspiring blend of energy, passion, and dedication to her role as a Behavior Interventionist (BI) at Burnett Therapeutic Services (BTS). She’s not just about working with clients – she’s here to celebrate their every victory, learn something new each day, and work toward an even bigger goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. At BTS, we love to share inspiring stories from our amazing staff, and Lizbeth’s journey is one that truly shines. Let’s dive into her story, the moments that make her work so fulfilling, and the advice she’s sharing for anyone considering the incredible path of ABA therapy.
Discovering a Passion: From Curiosity to Career
Lizbeth’s journey into ABA therapy started with an urge to help others but grew into something much deeper when she found herself in the role of a Behavior Interventionist at BTS. “I always knew I wanted to work with people and make a positive difference,” she shares. But it was only after she joined BTS that she discovered her real passion for ABA. Lizbeth explains that the more she dove into the daily work and research, the more fascinated she became. “It was the hands-on experience that really inspired me to dive deeper,” she says. Now, with every step, she’s learning and growing as she works toward her dream of becoming a licensed social worker.
Advice for Aspiring Behavior Technicians: Reach Out!
Lizbeth’s advice for anyone considering a career as a Behavior Technician? Reach out! She recommends connecting with someone already in the field. “I found that people are willing to talk about their experience and answer questions you might have,” she shares, highlighting the supportive nature of the ABA community. According to her, being an RBT is rewarding because you’re not just helping others learn – you’re continuously learning yourself. Every client, every session, brings new insights and experiences, which makes each day unique and fulfilling.
Celebrating Growth: What Lizbeth Loves Most About Her Role
For Lizbeth, the real magic lies in witnessing her clients’ progress firsthand. “Seeing the progress my clients make as we work on their goals is what I love the most,” she shares. Watching clients learn new skills and seeing their pride in their accomplishments is a joy that never gets old. At BTS, no two days are the same, which she finds exhilarating because it keeps her constantly learning and evolving.
But it’s not just the work with clients that Lizbeth loves – it’s also the supportive environment at BTS. “I know that whenever I have questions, there are so many people here willing to share their knowledge,” she says. The encouragement from her team feels like a collective cheerleading squad behind her, pushing her to reach her goals and excel.
Unforgettable Moments: The Power of Communication Breakthroughs
One of Lizbeth’s most memorable experiences involves a breakthrough moment with a nonverbal client. She vividly recalls when he used his Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs) independently for the first time. “He grabbed the image of his preferred bread and took it straight to his mom,” Lizbeth says, her excitement evident. “Seeing his mom’s reaction, hugging him and praising him alongside me, and watching his huge smile – it was priceless.” Moments like these, where her clients’ hard work along with her support come together, make everything worthwhile. It’s these tiny victories that remind Lizbeth of the power and purpose of her work.
Recharging and Staying Balanced
When she’s not cheering on her clients, Lizbeth loves to recharge by spending quality time with her family and friends. Game nights, mini-golf, or a fun evening of bowling are some of her go-to activities. But she also values her quiet time with a cozy coffee and a good book or catching up on the latest must-watch shows. Whether it’s out and about or staying in, these moments help her stay balanced and ready for the challenges and joys each day brings at BTS.
Looking Ahead: Big Dreams and Bright Futures
Lizbeth’s future goals are as inspiring as her current work. She’s on her way to applying to social work master’s programs, with a focus on behavioral and mental health. “I hope to get into a program for next fall,” she shares. Her ultimate goal is to become a licensed clinical social worker, and her experiences as an RBT have only fueled this ambition. Someday, she might even start a new role at BTS, bringing a deeper level of expertise and a broader impact to the team.
As Lizbeth continues her journey, she reminds us all of the profound joy that comes from working with others, celebrating small victories, and constantly growing. Whether she’s helping a client communicate, receiving a supportive high-five from her BTS team, or preparing for her future as a social worker, Lizbeth’s story is a testament to the impact of compassion, dedication, and a whole lot of heart.
