In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we're shining a spotlight on the invaluable work of mental health therapists/counselors like Courtney L. at Burnett Therapeutic Services (BTS). Courtney's dedication to her clients and her passion for making a positive impact in their lives is truly inspiring. Let's dive into her role and the meaningful work she does every day.
What is your position and work at BTS?
My current position at BTS is Mental Health Therapist. I am registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. I work with a wide range of individuals from childhood to adulthood.
What unique perspective or approach do you bring to your therapy practice?
As I provide counseling services to clients, I like to make sure clients feel comfortable with being vulnerable in this new step they are taking toward a healthier way of thinking and feeling. My approach with clients remains genuine and professional throughout their experience in therapy.
Could you describe a particularly memorable or rewarding moment you've experienced while working with clients?
A memorable moment while working with clients is really when I get to see the progress that is achieved during their time with me. I enjoy witnessing clients grow into a healthier version of themselves!
What advice would you give to individuals who may be hesitant to seek therapy or unsure if it's the right choice for them?
Before being committed to therapy, make sure you feel READY to explore vulnerabilities. The road during therapy can be like a rollercoaster, but is manageable and the end result is fewer symptoms and increased coping skills. Emotions and thoughts are difficult to navigate at times, but being open to the process of exploring helps with discovering different and new parts of yourself. Therapy is a process of healing parts of you that are wounded, which makes a great place to talk about struggles as well as achievements.
What do you hope to achieve or contribute through your work as a Mental Health Therapist, both personally and professionally?
I hope to leave a positive impact on client’s lives as they navigate their life in a positive direction. Providing clinical services to the public is a rewarding experience.
